Then my friend Bianca who works for Kiehl’s shared the story on why every Kiehl’s store looks so cool and interesting. Over the years, the many passions and interests of the Kiehl’s extended family have become part of the visual and emotional fabric of the company. The Kiehl’s experience supports an active, healthy lifestyle; aviation, alpine ski racing, and equestrian expertise, are all part of the Kiehl’s heritage and legacy.
Starting with this corner where you see the logo and all the chem. equipments. An interior that shows the history of Kiehl’s. By the way in case you are not familiar with the word Apothecary, it is a person who sells medicine and drugs, nowadays we call it pharmacist.
While this corner is saved for the men. Where all the products for men are displayed. If you notice the logo, it comes in neon lights that very well represents New York as where Kiehl’s originated. Make sense!
And this motorcycle is not just there for display, it’s a replica motorcycle of the owner of Kiehl’s which he used for selling his medicines many years ago. How cool is that? Perhaps one of the most recognizable of these thematic elements reflects the Kiehl’s traditions in motorcycling, with the company’s collection of vintage motorcycles on display in Kiehl’s freestanding stores around the globe for patrons to enjoy.
Okay, after being educated of the interiors in the store, we moved to visual presentation about the history, products and journey of Kiehl’s. I would say this one is unique and very intimate which is so good. And I will share some of it to you.
Kiehl’s was founded as an old-world apothecary in New York’s East Village neighborhood 163 years ago. Its unique and extensive background represents a blend of cosmetic, pharmaceutical, herbal, and medicinal knowledge developed through the generations.
In the early decades of the 20th century, Kiehl’s was a full-service pharmacy, offering its customers homeopathic and herbal remedies, essential oils, over the-counter drugs, and the first Kiehl’s brand products. In the early 1960s, Kiehl’s pharmacists continued to develop the Kiehl’s product range, utilizing expertise gained from their experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and chemistry. Today, Kiehl’s is dedicated to serving its customers quality products through its extensive line of skin and hair care formulations.
The people who comprise the extended family of Kiehl’s are committed to upholding these standards of excellence and quality, espoused and preserved over the years. Kiehl’s Customer Representatives – whose first priority is to serve and represent Kiehl’s customers – undergo an intensive education program in which they learn the value of formula ingredients and their efficacy. In addition to this unique commitment to a quality product, Customer Representatives gain the know-how to provide the unparalleled customer service that the company is known for. With Kiehl’s early traditions in dispensing advice on prescriptions to its customers, its staff today continues to “prescribe” a personal care regimen that is most appropriate for the individual’s skin, hair, and body care needs. Here, I was being tested on how oily my face was by using this special paper being pressed to my forehead and cheeks. I was amazed with it and luckily found out that my skin was normal in terms of oiliness.
Simple, no-frills packaging and a policy of not advertising allow the company to formulate its products with high quantities of the most efficacious ingredients available. In addition, the company has gained a reputation for generous sampling, with a try-before-you-buy philosophy that has built a loyal fan base the world over through the word-of-mouth recommendations of its cherished customers.
And what I love more about this company is that they give back.
For more than 160 years, Kiehl’s mission has always been to give back to the community. It has had multiple genuine partnerships with celebrities and organizations alike to fight for meaningful advocacies.
In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina devastated so many homes, Kiehl’s employees were prompted to help its victims. Kiehl’s meant to make a product that connected the people to the Earth, and so the staff realized that Brad Pitt, who at that time happened to be in New Orleans, was working towards environmental goals after Katrina struck. Pitt signed up with Kiehl’s in developing the product “Aloe Vera Biodegradable Liquid Body Cleanser,” packaged in a bottle which was made of recycled materials, and created the organization “Make It Right.” One hundred percent of the net sales were donated to the housing projects intended for the Katrina victims in New Orleans.
In 2011, another partnership in the pursuit to protect the environment arose. Kiehl’s partnered with musical icon Pharrell Williams and his Bionic Yarn company to develop limited edition tote bags that were made of recycled plastic bottles. Kiehl’s customers were in for a treat while saving the world from wastes and maximizing recycling efforts by turning in empty Kiehl’s bottles, cannisters, and tubes in exchange for Williams’ limited edition eco tote bag through the “Recycle and be Rewarded” program.
Another celebrity who’s active in forwarding advocacies and awareness is celebrated singer Alicia Keys. Keys formed the “Keep a Child Alive” foundation which aimed at helping children and their families affected by HIV. In 2013, Kiehl’s partnered with Keys by selling limited-edition Midnight Recovery Concentrate bottles that either had the “Keep A Child Alive” logo printed on the bottle or accessorized with a “Keep a Child Alive” charm. Every bottle sale has been donated to the foundation, which will benefit a child suffering with HIV through a monthly provision of medicine.
Since time in memoriam, Kiehl’s has remained faithful to its mission to produce skin care products of the finest quality, while keeping its commitment to give back to the community.
